TNW29: Keeping Creativity in Your Life with Jennifer Cole

TNW29: Keeping Creativity in Your Life with Jennifer Cole

In this episode of The Notable Woman Podcast, I interview Associate Dean Jennifer Cole from Gettysburg College about how she keeps creativity in her life.

Jennifer Cole is a gift of a human, and I am so excited to introduce her to you in this episode! She is the Associate Dean of Academic Advising at Gettysburg College, and in this episode of the podcast, we talk about her career in academic advising, the differences (or lack thereof) in college students over her tenure in higher education, and her creative activities. The main focus stays with her creative activities and what they teach her about herself, her work, and how she approaches the world. We also talk about the creative activities Jennifer did with her mother, who had recently passed away when we recorded this episode, and how that was reflected in her recreating her mother’s wedding dress for her own wedding. This is a great episode for creatives, parents, anyone working with college students, and anyone who has a creative practice or is looking to start one.

IN THIS EPISODE, I EXPLORE:
  • Jen’s time at Gettysburg College
  • What has or hasn’t changed in college students over Jen’s time in higher education
  • Learning your own voice as a free-thinking being and how that does or doesn’t happen in college
  • The process of recreating Jen’s mother’s wedding dress for her own wedding
  • Being kind to ourselves in the words we use

TNW28: the hurricane pod is a force of nature with Sophia Simon-Bashall

In this episode of The Notable Woman Podcast, I interview Sophia Simon-Bashall of the hurricane pod.

In this episode of The Notable Woman Podcast, I interview Sophia Simon-Bashall of the hurricane pod. She shares her story of living with mental illness and how her podcast creates a community for others living the same life. Sophia is fabulous for many reasons, but what I love in particular is her mission to show that you can survive and thrive and cry with mental illness and there doesn’t need to be a heartwarming story about you beating it. The story can be that you’re living.

This is a great episode for everyone. Period, the end.

IN THIS EPISODE, I EXPLORE:
  • About Sophia
  • Why Sophia loves music and how it helps her
  • Why she started the podcast
  • Why it’s important to tell the stories of people with mental illness who are living their lives

27. Dare to Blossom with Mary Lunnen

In this episode of The Notable Woman Podcast, I interview life coach Mary Lunnen of Dare to Blossom Life Coaching.

In this episode of the podcast, I interview life coach Mary Lunnen. Mary is such a breath of fresh air as a coach. I enjoy everything about her – how she thinks, how she coaches, and what she believes about the power of potential we each have. We talk about Mary herself, her bout with cervical cancer and then becoming a coach. We also talk about her personal coaching style, as well as what process you might undergo if you decided you wanted to work with a life coach. We talk through how you might know you need a life coach, what questions you can ask yourself, and how you can find the right person for you. Great episode! Mary quotes Anais Nin with “And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom,” and I think that’s the perfect way to know if this episode is for you or not. If the risk of staying the same is more painful than blossoming, listen on.

IN THIS EPISODE, I EXPLORE:
  • Mary’s story
  • Mary’s coaching philosophy including visualization, the magic carpet, and the power flower
  • How you might know you need a life coach
  • How you go about finding a life coach

Mary Lunnen

About Mary Lunnen

Mary Lunnen is a life coach living in Cornwall in the UK. She started out making and selling copper enamel jewelry, silk scarves, hand-stitched patchwork that she would sell as she traveled. Her life changed in 1994 when she was diagnosed with cervical cancer, and this journey eventually led her to life coaching, now named Dare to Blossom Life Coaching. Mary was inspired by the Anais Nin quote: “And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” Her books include her first about her journey with cervical cancer, Flying in the Face of Fear: Surviving Cervical Cancer, and her 2010 follow-up Cervical Cancer: The Essential Guide. She also has her book on coaching, meant to demystify the practice, Dare to Blossom: Coaching and Creativity. Mary’s 2019 theme is “Pathway to Power,” and we’ll see both a mastermind and a new book this year. Follow her journey and get on her mailing list here. (scroll to the bottom of the page)

TNW24: Scattered but Sparkly with Sasha Gray

TNW24: Scattered but Sparkly with Sasha Gray

Sasha Gray from Scattered Sasha and I have a great conversation about giving grace, especially to ourselves, her accidental business, and how she started her famous live show.

It should be a crime to have as much fun as Sasha Gray and I had recording this episode. We laughed, we cried, we talked everything from weddings to booze (margaritas and whiskey, of course). The conversation’s a blast, and I hope you enjoy it.

Sasha and I met in a Facebook group, and shortly afterward, I was planning my first summit. Carrie Sharpe of He Says, She Says insisted that I have Sasha as a guest, and the rest, as they say, is history. Since then, Sasha has appeared in my summits, as a guest speaker in my group, and even as one of my popular Notable Woman Live! guests.

In this episode, we talk about her accidental business, how she cultivated her tribe (her following), and how she started her live show, and much, much more! I hope you enjoy this episode and don’t forget to join The Society of Notable Women if you want to continue the conversation! And of course, Sasha has a great gift for you! Head on over to get her “Your Journey: 5 Ways to Increase Daily Joy.”

IN THIS EPISODE, WE EXPLORE:

  • Why you can’t take yourself too seriously
  • How Sasha became known as Sasha Gray (spoiler: it’s a pseudonym)
  • How Sasha chose to name her page “Lipstick, Margaritas, and Hairspray” (now Scattered Sasha)
  • How Sasha cultivated such a huge tribe (at the time of this recording, it was 239K now up to 255K)
  • How Sasha started an accidental business
  • The creation of the “unbreakable” token and its impact on people
  • Why we all need to give ourselves grace
  • How Sasha started her show (you can watch it here)
  • Sasha getting married at the racetrack

13. Energy and How You Can Increase Yours with Maddie Penko

About this episode
In this episode of The Notable Woman Podcast, I chat with Health Coach Maddie Penko about energy stealers and how you can increase your energy. Maddie is a gem of a health coach, and I met her in Jenn Scalia’s Little Black Business Book, an excellent online resource for women in business. Maddie’s light and sense of fun shine through in every post, and we started chatting outside the group. I’ve done several of her free challenges and am in her free health group. I like Maddie because she isn’t afraid to tell you where you could be improving your health with some of her signature sass, but at the same time, you feel loved and supported. She’s like that older sister (although obviously, she’s younger than me!) who has caught you borrowing her killer heels for the last time.

When Maddie and I first chatted about the focus of this episode, I was so excited to hear she was focusing on energy. I know as a professional boss woman who also is mama to a tiny mischief maker, energy is a huge problem for me. Having avenues to increase my energy without bathing in Red Bull is much more the way I want to go. Listen in to get Maddie’s insight in this interview and definitely download her free guide on energy stealers!

About Maddie Penko
There’s a lot of information out there. Science is contradicting itself every day, and what works for someone else might not work for you, even what I’m telling you today on the podcast.
